Corporate Counsel – International

This position, based in Tokyo, will support Amazon’s rapidly growing and evolving digital video business in Japan.
You will support the business on a broad range of commercial matters and structuring, drafting and negotiating licensing agreements.
You will also support development and production of original content, including helping to develop forms and policies, and handle a wide range of production related agreements.
During the course of supporting the video business, you will be responsible for handling various legal matters including evaluating rights issues, confirming chain of title and handling clearance matters, standards and practices review, and promotion and publicity issues. You will analyze and interpret contracts and provide thoughtful legal advice on potential risks and issues in a wide range of international legal areas, including intellectual property, digital media and regulatory compliance.
You will be part of the legal team that supports the digital & device business in Japan.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

· Qualified lawyer in Japan and/or US or other common law jurisdiction with outstanding academic qualifications.
· A minimum of 5+ years of legal experience at a leading global law firm, in-house at a major multinational corporation and/or have worked with production house or industry.
· Some experience supporting commercial transactions, licensing, production deals or other intellectual property work.
· Must have ability to communicate orally and in writing, draft agreements and negotiate in English and Japanese.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

· Experience in video licensing or production deals.
· Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to act as a business partner to our business teams.
· Outstanding legal and business judgment.
· Strong strategic organizational and project management skills, drafting, negotiation, analytical, management and leadership skills.
· Proven ability to deal with ambiguity and to work well with all levels of employees and management.
· Proven ability to work independently in a fast paced environment.
· The ability to function as part of a global legal team and autonomously when required.
