Facility Operations Center Engineer

The Data Center Global Services organization is looking for an individual with proven and tested leadership skills to support a new Amazon Facilities Operations Center in Japan. This team will provide for and support 24X7 real time monitoring, incident response, communications management and reporting for all data center physical infrastructure - globally.
The ideal candidate will need to be passionate about customer experience with the ability to drive tasks, assignments, and projects to operational excellence. As this is a new venture, we are looking for individuals that want to play a role in the development of something great from the ground up. The successful candidate will ultimately be responsible for providing assistance and support to those supporting the Data Center platform. This role supports the team’s overall initiative which is to ensure that the platform remains available and reliable to meet or exceed defined service levels. The ideal candidate will need to have an understanding of data center IT Infrastructure and data center Facilities infrastructure and how the two entities co-exist. Facility Operations is a high impact customer and vendor-facing environment. The ability to work in a constantly changing environment and the ability to assess critical service affecting situations is an absolute must.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

Required Skills and Experience
· Must be Bilingual in either English+Japanese or Chinese or Korean, or Other
· Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Computer or other type of Engineering; or have 7+ years of relevant work experience
· Experience working on or maintaining physical infrastructure equipment; strong understanding of control’s systems.
· Experience leading a shift of 10+ engineers
· Demonstrated Project management skills
· Able to remain cool, calm, and collected under high pressure situations while effectively managing multiple tasks
· Proven success managing time and managing multiple projects in a high growth environment where priorities shift quickly
· Superior verbal and written communication skills with high attention to detail
· Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills when working with key decision-makers
· Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
· Comfortable driving creative solutions in a fast-paced environment, a strong advocate for our customers, and driven to create a best-in-class command center
· Experience prioritizing competing demands, scoping large efforts, and negotiating timelines
Knowledge and Qualifications
· Must be free to work in a 24x7x365 environment (The team is shift-based, which requires that you be available to work weekends, holiday and nights.)
· Able to use multiple internet and intranet systems to resolve customer issues in a timely manner
· Ability to accurately follow and complete support procedures, system documentation, and issue tracking entries
· Ability to maintain SLAs through the implementation of proactive issue detection and reporting tools
· Ability to work with senior company leaders
· Good judgment and instincts in decision making
· Ability to operate with significant autonomy and discretion; strong judgment and instinct
· Proven leadership ability - works well with people as a highly motivated team member which inspires the motivation of others; ability to teach and mentor junior and mid-level engineers

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred Qualifications
· 7+ years experience working in a large-scale data center
· 3+ years experience in a NOC (Network Operations Center)
· 3+ years experience IT support
· The ideal candidate not only understands data center IT Infrastructure, data center facilities infrastructure, and how the two entities co-exist, but has proven ability to improve the relationship between the two groups.
