We are seeking a Sr. Development Manager to lead our Palo Alto team of engineers and scientists that invent new ways for customers to interact with Alexa, across multiple channels, helping customers get answer to any product question they ask, as well as educate them on new products and feature and help them make better purchasing decision every day. The team is focusing on answering product questions, sharing important product content with Alexa customers and surfacing Alexa’s product advice and help across Amazon’s Mobile and Web platforms. The product you build will touch millions of users every month. You will ship new customer-facing improvements every sprint, the platform you build will get better over time, learning from new data, user behavior, and better models to provide more helpful product information to an ever-growing number of user requests and experiences.
In this role, you will lead a team to design, develop, test, and deploy massively scalable services, while at the same time redefining customer's expectations for what an intelligent assistant can do, across multiple channels. You will hire and develop a world-class team of engineers and scientist, with a deep understanding of agile software development methodologies, and a strong foundation in machine learning. You will work on highly visible project across Amazon and collaborate closely with product owners, engineering leaders, and leadership across the company.

· 5+ years of experience managing software engineering teams
· 10+ years of software development experience in object-oriented design and coding in Java, C++, or related technologies
· 2+ years experience leading teams with Agile / Scrum methodologies
· Strong design, architecture, and problem solving skills
· A Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or equivalent

· A Master's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering
· Background in distributed systems and machine learning
· Experience with speech and language understanding systems
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex technical information and negotiate tradeoffs with a variety of audiences
